RedHotPie's Messenger is a real time conversation system which replaces our previous email style messaging platform. Messenger is comprised of Conversations in which our members can send messages and photo files to each other in real time. On your first visit to the Messenger area, you will be given a quick run-through of settings.
The number of Conversations a member can participate in each day is dependent on their membership level (click here for quotas). A member's daily quota of Conversations is counted from midnight to midnight. During that one-day period, the sender and recipient can send as many messages backwards and forwards as they like as per real-time chatting. However, in order to give a recipient a chance to catch up, you can only send ten messages within a Conversation in a row before being asked to wait for the other party to reply before continuing.
A credit is needed to participate in a Conversation, whether for sending a new message to a new user, or replying to a message sent from someone you chatted with the previous day. Our system does not differentiate between new messages and replies while you have credits. Once you have used all your credits however, replies sent to you can be replied to without credits, as long as you do so within seven days of receiving the message. Please click here for more information about how Messenger credits work on RHP.
Messenger on the RHP App and Mobile Web
On the App or mobile web, you can access Messenger via the speech bubble icon on the lower navigation area. You will immediately see a list of all your previous messages (if any) converted into Conversations. If you click on a Conversation, it will display the messages you have exchanged with the particular person. Please use the top-left arrow to return to your Conversations list.
You will also see a shortcut bar at the top which gives you a list of people you have previously messaged (Active Now), or you can opt to filter your Conversation list to show people who are Mutual Matches (you are what they are looking for, and vice versa), or Friends and Favourites (those who are on your Friends list or who you have Fav'ed).
You can also further filter your Conversations by clicking on the search icon on the top-right. You can filter or search for Conversations according to:
- All Conversations - all conversations that currently exist and are not deleted
- Matching - conversations from matching members
- Unread - messages you haven't read
- Unreplied - messages you haven't replied to
- All sent - messages you have sent but haven't received a reply to
- Private Folders - messages that were placed in to Folders in the old system
- Search by username - messages sent from a particular user
Messenger also now lets you manage who you receive messages from. You can adjust Messenger Settings by clicking on the cog icon on the top-left. Here you can select who you wish to receive messages from (Anyone, Matching, Limited, Locked) and adjust other aspects of messaging including creating or editing Quick Messages (formerly quick replies) and creating Folders. You can also opt to make 'Matching' your default folder for whenever you access Messenger.
Finally, you can also manage each individual Conversation by clicking on the three vertical dots on the top-right. You can pin any Conversation that you want to have saved at the top of your list for easy access, or delete the conversation entirely if you don't want it appearing in your main list. You can also add a new Folder to place your Conversation in, or if you need to block or report the Conversation, you can do so here also.
Messenger on the RHP Website
On the website, you can access Messenger by clicking on 'Messenger' on the main navigational menu bar, or by clicking on the speech bubble icon on the top-right of the screen near your account/username display. Once directed to the Messenger area, you will immediately see a list of all your previous messages (if any) converted into Conversations on the left-hand side. The main area will display the messages of your most recent Conversation.
On the website you can manage your settings in much the same was as on the App or mobile web. You can switch between 'All' and 'Matching' to interact with Conversations that are most relevant to you. Most settings to filter your Conversations can be found on the left-hand list, such as searching via username.
You can also manage each individual Conversation by clicking on the three vertical dots on the top-right.
